Kuala Lumpur, Dec 5- The police have rubbished claims that there were ‘leaks’ pertaining to the Mathematics and Additional Mathematics papers in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) last month.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the police investigated a report lodged on Nov 21, and questioned 56 witnesses, including a student who attended a seminar which allegedly leaked the question papers.
He said investigations revealed that the seminar, which was organised several days before the SPM examination was held, only discussed Mathematics questions from SPM papers of the previous years, and made several forecasts.
“The issue of SPM papers being leaked does not arise. The seminar only made forecast questions based on past SPM question papers. We have carefully investigated the report,” he told a media conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters here Wednesday.
On Nov 22, the Malaysian Muslim Consumer Association received complaints from three individuals claiming the Mathematics and Additional Mathematics question papers for SPM this year had been leaked.
The three individuals claimed the paper was distributed during a 2013 SPM seminar organised by a teacher at the Mua’adz Bin Jabal Mosque in Setiawangsa.
Meanwhile, the police raided 22 illegal pawnshops here yesterday and detained 21 suspects comprising 17 men and four women.
The suspects were aged between 20 and 50.
Mohmad said the police also seized jewellery, branded wrist-watches and pawnshop tickets worth about tens of thousands of ringgit.
