New Delhi, Dec 10 – The United Kingdom said there is no cap on the number of Indian students admitted to its universities and they are welcome to pursue education in the country, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
“The number of Indian students are actually falling at a time when the number of Chinese students are rising rapidly,” said UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable.
“There was a certain perception that the UK was not welcoming. But actually they (Indians) are welcome and there are no caps on numbers,” he said at the 9th meeting of India-UK joint Economic & Trade Committee (JETCO) here.
Students can also consider seeking employment after graduation, Cable (pic)said.
“I hope the message will get out that we are open and welcoming to Indian students. We are trying to improve the image of Britain for people coming from India,” he added.
This year, Britain scrapped the controversial 3,000-pound visa bond scheme for some “high risk” overseas visitors to the country, including from India which was previously scheduled to be implemented on a pilot scale last month.
