Johor, Dec 10 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Tuesday announced that Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the investment holding arm of the government, will donate RM10 million for flood relief and rehabilitation.
Najib, who is also Khazanah Nasional chairman, said the donation would go towards helping the people who were affected by the recent floods in the country.
Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor were badly affected by the floods which have begun to recede in most of the states.
“Khazanah (Nasional) has recorded an encouraging performance and agrees to donate RM10 million for flood relief and rehabilitation,” Najib said at the opening of the Traders Hotel, Puteri Harbour, and Legoland Resort Malaysia, here.
Earlier, Najib, who was accompanied by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Khazanah Nasional deputy chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Nor Yakcop and Khazanah Nasional managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, chaired the 69th meeting of the Khazanah Nasional board of directors at the Traders Hotel.
Meanwhile, Khazanah Nasional said in a statement that the RM10 million donation was to help extend the relief effort, rehabilitation and preparedness of the flood-hit states.
“The donation is directed towards flood relief, rehabilitation and preparedness to face the new wave of floods. It is also to support initiatives to ensure readiness in the medium and long term,” said the statement.
Khazanah Nasional said the donation was a continuation of ongoing efforts by several government-linked companies in which Khazanah Nasional has investments.
The statement said Khazanah Nasional would work with the National Security Council and volunteer relief organisation Mercy Malaysia in the flood relief efforts.
