Kuala Lumpur, Dec 20 – The Wanita MCA election process began Friday morning, with the delegates casting their votes to pick a new leadership.
They started to vote at 11 am to elect the Wanita chief, deputy chief, four vice-chairmen, 22 Central Committee (CC) members (open category) and three CC members (35 years and below).
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Yu Chok Tow has decided not to defend the post, and the election sees a direct contest between vice-chief Datuk Heng Saie Kie and Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) information chief Tan Cheng Liang.
Overall, there are only 43 candidates in the race for the 31 posts in Wanita MCA.
A total of 1,838 or 87.03 per cent of the 2,112 delegates eligible to vote had registered today, and the results are expected at about 6 pm at the latest.
Those elected will attend the party’s annual general assembly scheduled on Sunday at the party headquarters here.
