Ong Ka Chuan Appointed MCA Secretary-General

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 3 – Tanjung Malim Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan has been appointed as the MCA secretary-general.

Ong had served as MCA secretary-general before. His last national post was as Central Committee member.

Teluk Intan MCA division chief Datuk Seri Kuan Peng Soon was appointed as the treasurer-general.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced their appointments in the capital, Thursday, after chairing the first meeting of the Central Committee since the election on Dec 21.

“All MCA leaders and members have to become a team once again to transform the party after the crushing loss in the 13th general election (GE13).

The meeting set up eight special committees, 13 bureau and two special teams namely syariah law, policy implementation and international issues.

The eight committees are political development, educational consulting, 14th general election, Chinese organisations ties, research and strategic, planning, economic, social and restructuring.

Liow also announced the creation of the Chief of Staff Presidential Office tasked with aiding him in making statements on various issues.

Asked about the party’s decision to hold another extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to accept Cabinet posts, he said the decision would be brought to the President’s Council meeting soon.

The MCA would also organise a seminar on the Party’s Transformation Plan on Jan 16-18 to get views of delegates to speed up the transformation process.

Other appointments made were – Datuk Wee Jeck Seng (deputy secretary-general), Datuk Alex Chuah Poh Kiang (deputy treasurer-general), Datuk Yoo Wei (national organising secretary).

Four others appointed Central Committee members were Datuk Yew Teong Look, Koh Chin Han, Chew Kok Woh and Wong Nai Chee (Political Secretary to the Prime Minister).

The five Disciplinary Committee members were Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung (chairman), Datuk Lim Si Cheng (deputy chairman), Datuk Wong Kam Hong, Datuk Leong Tang Chong and Tan Kok Hong.

The state liaison chairmen were Datuk Chua Tee Yong (Perlis), Datuk Lee Chee Leong (Kedah), Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun (Penang), Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (Perak), Liow (Selangor,Melaka), Yew (Federal Territory), Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong (Negeri Sembilan, Johor), Datuk Hoh Khai Mun (Pahang), Datuk Toh Chin Yaw (Terengganu), Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung (Kelantan) and Wilfred Yong Chen Leong (Sabah).
