Petaling Jaya: Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan was today assaulted by an unknown man while attending a programme at his parliamentary service centre in Hulu Selengor.
It is learnt that the alleged assailant is an office bearer of Hulu Selangor Umno Youth.
According to sources who were present, Kamalanathan was meeting a group of Hulu Selangor Umno Youth members at about 2.30pm today.
Apparently the deputy minister was struck on his neck by the assailant while he was shaking hands with those present.
The programme was cancelled as a result of the ruckus.
Kamalanathan later lodged a police report at the Bukit Sentosa police station over the incident.
According to a police source, the case will be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and the police are looking for the suspect.
The assault is allegedly linked to a request made by the assailant’s family to Kamalanathan to transfer a relative who is a teacher in Johor to Hulu Selangor.
