Paris,Jan 16 – Doctors fear that F1 legend Michael Schumacher may never come out of his coma.
Schumacher has been in an artificially induced coma for 18 days now. Doctors say that he has not yet recovered enough from his injuries to be woken up. Schumacher was put in coma in order to allow his brain to recover better from the injuries that he sustained in a low-speed ski accident on December 29.
However, since he hasn’t recovered as well as was expected, experts say that he may be committed to the coma for the rest of his life.
Patients induced in coma are usually woken up in a week or two, however, Schumacher’s condition remains critical and if woken up, he runs the risk of a brain haemorrhage.
Scientists on Wednesday said that people with severe head injuries like the one that left Michael Schumacher in critical condition have permanently altered brains that make the victims more likely to become mentally ill and die prematurely.
The most successful F1 racer in history, Schumacher, 44, fell while skiing at a ski resort in the French Alps on December 29. While he was wearing a ski helmet, he hit his head on a rock and suffered severe injuries when his helmet split into two.
