BERA, Feb 13 – The benefits enjoyed by the people from the prevailing stability and peace need to be safeguarded as these are the result of efforts by past leaders who had sacrificed a lot for the people and nation.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who said this, noted that Malaysia was fortunate because although it was a multiracial and multireligious country, the people could still live in an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill.
“The independence that we had achieved was due to our multiracial unity. Therefore, I wish to remind everyone to appreciate the peace that we enjoy and don’t gamble it away.
“It is due to unity and peace that we can live in harmony and are free to go about our daily activities without any obstacle or disturbance.”
He said this at a Chinese New Year dinner function organised by the Kai Lan Welfare Association and attended by over 1,000 people from all races in Mengkarak town, near here, last night.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Bera member of parliament, said the spirit of multiracial unity should be fostered and strengthened for the good of all despite their different political ideologies.
“Having different political ideologies does not mean that we should be enemies. The government’s desire is to create harmonious relations for the good of all Malaysians and for continued peace and prosperity,” he said.
