Fruit Prices Drop Nationwide

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 12 – Fruit lovers had a pleasant surprise when various fruits such as pineapple, papaya and red grapes went on sale at reduced prices in several parts of the country Wednesday.

Imagine pineapple was being sold at only RM0.98 sen per kilogramme at Mydin Kota Bharu in Kelantan and was far more cheaper than the price of its neighbours where it was sold at RM5.40 per kg in Econjaya Supermarket, Jerteh, Terengganu and RM5 per kg at Taman Tun Sardon wet market in Penang.

The prices of these consumer goods are displayed at www.1pengguna.com portal of the by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK). It lists the prices of various kinds of daily necessities according to premises and state.

Papaya was sold distinctly cheaper at RM0.99 sen per kg at the Econsave Supermarket in Skudai Parade, Johor Baharu, when compared with the price at the Cold Storage at KLCC here where it was sold at RM4.49 per kg and RM5 per kg at the Binjai wet market in Kemaman, Terengganu.

Dubbed the choice fruit of the rich, red grapes was being sold at only RM2 per kg in Tuaran Market, Sabah, compared with Kuching’s Boulevard Hypermarket where it was being sold for RM9.88 per kg.

In the peninsula, red grapes was going for as low as RM6.90 per kg at Econsave Kluang, Johor and Aneka Baling Supermarket

Apart from these fruits, ‘pisang berangan’ was sold at a reduced price of RM2 per kg at the Sungkai wet market in Perak and Semporna General Market in Sabah compared with RM5.98 per kilo in Tesco Shah Alam and RM5.99 per kilo at Cold Storage in Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Tomatoes were on sale for as low as RM1.60 per kg at Billion Market in Lencong, Kedah and Aneka Retail in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, but was being sold at RM7.59 per kg in Carrefour Seberang Perai, Penang and RM7.90 per kg in Actif Market in Jerantut, Pahang.

Red watermelon was on sale at RM0.99 cents per kg at Servay Hypermarket Store, Putatan, Sabah but at RM3.99 at Giant Padawan, Sarawak.

In the peninsula, the price of watermelon was as low as RM1.29 per kg in Aeon Batu Pahat, Johor and Aeon Wangsa Maju in Kuala Lumpur compared with RM4.90 per kg at the Bandar Baru Supermarket, Pulau Tikus, Penang.

Seedless red watermelon was being sold at only RM0.99 per kg at Giant Hypermarket in Melaka compared with EM5.99 per kg at Mercato Supermarket in Hartamas and RM3.20 per kg at Port Dickson Market, Seremban.
