LAHAD DATU, Feb 14 – Silam member of parliament (MP) Salleh Kalbi assured the safety of the district’s residents, following the capture of a group of foreigners impersonating soldiers at the coast here on Tuesday.
The MP said tight security had led to the trespassers’ detention and both the police and army were monitoring the situation closely.
“I’m confident with the follow up actions to maintain security taken by our police and armed forces,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Yesterday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that security forces had detained a group of foreigners posing as military personnel off the Tambisan coast in Lahad Datu.
Meanwhile, Bernama noted a police road block along Jalan Lahad Datu-Tungku in Kampung Bakapit since the incident.
A number of General Operations Force personnel were also seen on duty at Bandar Cenderawasih in Felda Sahabat 7.
