SEREMBAN, Feb 14 – Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said he welcomed the rebranding of the Prisons Department to Prisons and Corrective Service Department.
He said, the new name was suitable based on the unique responsibilities carried out by the officers and personnel of the department to rebuild human resources and value.
“This is because the officers and personnel of the Prisons Department not only work within the prison walls, but also outside, with the society, to involve ex-convicts with other parties so as to carry out their duties,” he said at the handing over of 2012 Prisons Department Central Zone Excellence Service Awards to 262 Prisons staff here, today. Also present was Prisons director-general, Prisons Commissioner General Datuk Sri Zulkifli Omar.
He said, the effort of the department in carrying out rehabilitative work outside the prison walls, should not neglect the need to rebuild the inmates who were still inside the prison.
