New Dehli, March 12- Within 24 hours of the Election Commission asking the Gujarat Tourism Department to stop its advertisement campaign featuring superstar Amitabh Bachchan following a complaint by the Congress party, the actor himself urged the government on Monday to postpone a shoot.

The Hindu quoted sources as saying that Bachchan requested to postpone the shooting at Champaner and Pavagadh as he is suffering from stomach pain.

The shoot was scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, but was postponed by the state tourism department.

According to report in The Times of India, Bachchan will now shoot for the commercial after the Lok Sabha elections.

The department officially cited Bachchan’s health as the reason behind the postponement.

In a letter sent out to the Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath a couple of days ago, Congress had objected to the shooting of the tourism ads under the “Khushboo Gujarat Ki” tag-line for which Bachchan was to arrive in the city on Monday.

Vadodara city Congress president Narendra Ravat told The Indian Express, “The advertisement is used for promoting development under BJP in Gujarat. We oppose the same as a celebrity of this rank is being used to promote BJP’s false developments (claims) in tourism sector, during election time to market BJP in name of shooting tourism advertisement.”
