Mumbai – Veteran Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan was admitted to hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.
Amitabh tweeted on Saturday night that he was tested positive and requested those who were “in close proximity to me in the last 10 days” to get themselves tested for the coronavirus.
The 77-year-old actor’s family and staff also underwent tests and his 44-year-old film star son Abhishek was found positive.
The Bachchans are being treated at Mumbai’s Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital.
“Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID 19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic,” Abhishek (pic) said on social media on Saturday night.
Indian celebrities and politicians in online messages wished the Bachchans speedy recovery.
Celebrities and fans across the country have also flooded social media accounts with their wishes for his quick recovery.
“Dear Amitabh Ji, I join the whole Nation in wishing you a quick recovery! After all, you are the idol of millions in the country, an iconic superstar!” tweeted Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
Bachchan recently played in director Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo, which was released digitally. He is also scheduled to host season 12 of a popular quiz shows Kaun Banega Crorepati.
