Kuala Lumpur, March 25- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) tonight expressed profound regret that its MH370 aircraft ended in the southern Indian Ocean, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Our prayers go out to all the loved ones of the 227 passengers, and to our 12 friends and colleagues at this enormously painful time.
“We know there are no words that we or anyone else can say which can ease your pain,” MAS said in a statement here.
It said MAS would continue to provide assistance and support to the next-of-kin of the passengers throughout the difficult weeks and months ahead.
“The ongoing multinational search operation will continue, as we seek answers to the questions which remain. Alongside the search for MH370, there is an intensive investigation, which we hope will also provide answers,” it added.
After a 17-day agonising wait, Najib tonight announced that the flight path of MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.
He made the announcement following the never before used analysis by the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated the northern and southern corridors.
Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, went missing enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, about an hour after taking off from the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6.30am, the same day.
At the special press conference, MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya was seen crying as the announcement was made.
