Melbourne, June 13 – Photo shows Malaysian Airlines aircraft flight MH148 sitting on the tarmac yesterday at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne, Australia.
This Malaysia Airlines (MAS) passenger jetliner on 12 June 2015, turned back after taking off from Melbourne airport due to a suspected engine fire, according to an airline statement.
The plane radioed back to air control that the controls indicated an engine fire, and returned to land after dumping fuel, said Peter Gibson, corporate communication manager with Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
The incident was widely reported as an emergency landing in Australian and other media. MAS said the Kuala Lumpur-bound flight MH 148 had 279 passengers and 13 crew on board.
MAS is currently undergoing a 2-billion US dollar rehabilitation programme after it was hit by two deadly air tragedies last year.
