April 4 – Former telecom minister A. Raja (pic), who had to quit in the wake of Rs.1.72 lakh crore-scam in the allocation of the 2G spectrum, owns assets worth Rs.36.1 million. Raja, who declared his assets on Wednesday, is seeking re-election to Lok Sabha from Nilgiris (SC) constituency in Tamil Nadu.
In his affidavit declared while filing nominations, Raja shows movable assets of Rs.14.5 million in his name, Rs.93.93 lakh held by his wife M.A. Parameswari, Rs.18.15 lakh held by his minor daughter and Rs.41.03 lakh property in the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF).
According to PTI, he declared immovable assets valued at Rs.32.85 lakh in his name. His wife owned Rs.14.12 lakh immovables and Raja’s share in HUF is Rs.14.53 lakh. Raja declared that he has liabilities to the extent of Rs.35.51 lakh and his wife Rs.3.92 lakh. The liability under H.UF is Rs.20,803. He stated that he has deposits of Rs.64.79 lakh in various banks and there is Rs.6.51 lakh in his wife’s name. The 50-year-old DMK leader has Rs.7,98,275 cash on hand and his wife Parameswari has Rs.34,786.
Raja has listed 108 sovereigns of gold worth Rs.26.59 lakh and his wife 175 sovereigns worth Rs.43.08 lakh. Raja has declared that a criminal case filed against him in connection with the 2G scam is pending before a special court in Delhi.
