KUCHING, Feb 15- Serving to the best of his ability remained a priority for Petra Jaya Member of Parliament Datuk Fadillah Yusof, rather than basking over past election achievements. Speaking to reporters here today, the science, technology and innovation deputy minister said it never crossed his mind that he should score a big majority, should he be chosen as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the 13th General Election (13GE).
“What is more important for me is to give my best for the people. The rest I leave it to the people. Whether I’ll be getting the highest votes (majority) or not, is secondary to me,” he said.
Fadillah was asked to comment on his chances of achieving a greater majority if he contested in the 13GE after securing a majority of 14,397 votes in the 2008 election, the second highest majority scored by a BN candidate in Sarawak. In the last election, Fadillah polled 19,515 votes to defeat PKR candidate Mohamad Jolhi, who secured only 5,118 votes.
Fadillah, who is also youth chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) – the BN backbone in Sarawak – is strongly tipped to be retained as the coalition candidate for Petra Jaya, a Malay majority constituency in Kuching city.
