Kuala Lumpur, May 13 – A file photo showing passengers queuing up to check in for their no-frills AirAsia flight at Bangkok International airport, Bangkok, Thailand.
AirAsia, one of the world’s largest budget airlines, said today, it would pilot the screening of its passengers’ passports against Interpol’s stolen and lost travel documents database.
The Kuala Lumpur-based airline was to begin implementing the screening later in the month as part of an effort to enhance aviation security in the aftermath of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 on March 8.
“AirAsia is extremely pleased to be the first airline globally to collaborate with INTERPOL to implement I-Checkit,” – Tony Fernandes, AirAsia group chief operating officer, said in a statement.
The world police body’s I-Checkit system will be deployed across all of AirAsia’s international operations, covering 600 international flights daily.
