Kuala Terengganu, May 14 – Barisan Nasional (BN) remains in power in Terengganu with a majority of 17 seats in the State Legislative Assembly,Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said today.
He said so far, no official notice was received by Terengganu State Assembly Speaker Mohd Zubir Embong on the declaration of three Umno state assemblymen as independent assemblymen.
“The matter is not confirmed yet. We (BN) are still stable (with 17 seats),we are still in power,” he told reporters after clocking-in for the first time as Terengganu Menteri Besar today.
He also said he and the 16 BN state assemblymen would be in Putrajaya Jaya today for a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Questioned whether the three BN assemblymen who announced having left the Umno and declared themselves as independent assemblymen would also be at the meeting, Ahmad Razif said he did not know.
Yesterday, former Terengganu menteri besar and Kijal assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud announced that they had left Umno and become independent assemblymen.
This followed the resignation of Ahmad as the menteri besar on May 12 and the swearing-in of Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman as the new menteri besar that night.
However, Roslee later withdrew his resignation from Umno and this was confirmed by State Tourism and Cultural Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee.
