ALOR SETAR, May 21 – The Kedah Regency Council chairman, Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, died in Pantai Hospital in Ipoh, Perak at 12.20am Wednesday.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said funeral prayers for Tunku Annuar will be held in Istana Anak Bukit, here at 3pm today.
“His remains will lie in state in Dewan Penghadapan of Istana Anak Bukit from 1pm to 3pm for the last respects,” he said when announcing the sad news via Kedah.fm today.
Mukhriz said the remains of Tunku Annuar will be buried in the Kedah Royal Mausoleum in Langgar after Asar prayers.
The cortege will pass through Jalan Sultanah, Jalan Titi Gajah, Jalan Hutan Kampung, Jalan Langgar and then to the royal mausoleum.
He said the Kedah state flag, the Malaysian flag (Jalur Gemilang) and other flags shall be flown at half mast for three days from today.
The mourning period is for seven days, starting today until May 27. During this period, all forms of entertainment and festivities are cancelled.
As mark of respect for the death of the Tunku Bendahara of Kedah, the Kedah government has declared today as a public holiday throughout the state.
