KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak visited the giant panda pair, Fu Wa and Feng Yi, at Zoo Negara, here, today.
Najib who twitted and posted on his Facebook account, a picture of his visit, said giant pandas were considered to be symbols of peace in Chinese culture and were highly revered.
The two Chinese giant pandas are here for 10 years to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China on May 31.
Loaned through the Malaysia-China Giant Panda International Conservation Agreement programme, the pandas will be quarantined for about one month in a special place in Zoo Negara to enable them to adjust themselves to the new environment.
Via the programme signed in 2012, Malaysia has the opportunity to undertake giant panda conservation research, besides being able to develop and train local experts in the field.
