KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today joined millions of Malaysians in cheering for the country’s team in the fight against Japan in the Thomas Cup final in New Delhi, India.
The battle saw Malaysian badminton champion and world number one player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei defeated Kenichi Tago 21-12, 21-16 to collect Malaysia’s first point.
“Congratulations Chong Wei! Hopefully the national squad brings back #2014ThomasCup. The whole country cheers for you!” he said in his Facebook and Twitter sites.
Najib also uploaded a picture of him with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and son, Nor Ashman, watching the game via ‘live’ telecast at their residence.
The last time Malaysia won the Thomas Cup was in 1992.
