TELUK INTAN, May 28 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has given a stern warning to secret societies and criminals not to take advantage of the Teluk Intan Parliamentary by-election.
Ahmad Zahid said he had received information that certain quarters had, among others, tried to profit from the by-election to be held this Saturday.
“Don’t blackmail anyone, don’t interfere in politics. I know their faces, I know their names, I know they stay there and run here. I also know that some of them are opening gambling outlets for 31 days this month,” he said when speaking at a meet-the-the-people session here tonight.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Bagan Datoh Member of Parliament, said the by-election was not a question of political gamble and urged that the voting process be handed over to the voters in the Teluk Intan constituency.
In another development, Ahmad Zahid once again slammed a handful of media representatives for twisting his words relating to contribution from the community comprising various races in the country.
Hence, he remined the people of Teluk Intan not to be deceived by the opposition’s propaganda, especially during the remaining three days of the campaign period.
The Teluk Intan Parliamentary by-election sees a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong and DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mod Daud.
