SHAH ALAM, May 29 – Malaysia’s trade with Austria is expected to increase this year, said Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Hamim Samuri (Picture).
Hamim said in 2013, bilateral trade totalled RM2.02 billion, an increase of 20.1 per cent from 2012 with exports of RM474.5 million and imports of RM1.55 billion.
“We expect the numbers for 2014 will be much better with more Austrian-based companies venturing into Malaysia, such as Doka Formwork (M) Sdn Bhd,” he told reporters at the Doka Formwork Malaysia new office here Thursday.
The deputy minister added that foreign direct investments from Austria were also expected to improve further this year from RM61.15 million last year.
He urged more Austrian companies to explore and benefit from the Economic Transformation Programme as well as various regional development corridors.
“By bringing in the latest technology and innovation, it will provide an impetus to further catalyse the growth and development of construction and engineering industries in Malaysia.
“We envision that this development will allow for more technology transfer through the sharing of specific skills and expertise,” Hamim said.
The deputy minister said this would also enhance human capital development, create skilled employment opportunities and in long term strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Doka Formwork is a globally-renowned brand in the construction industry which manufactures and provides high standard system formwork solutions for building and engineering.
Meanwhile, Doka Malaysia Managing Director, TG Lim, said the company has an orderbook of RM50 million this year.
“We will also be involved in the development of affordable housing, which is championed by the Malaysian government,” he said.
