India’s Andhra Pradesh state was formally split in two to create Telangana, the country’s 29th state.
Telangana comprises 10 of the former Andhra Pradesh’s 23 districts.
The remaining region will now be a separate state retaining the name Andhra Pradesh and is now called Seemanthra.
The city of Hyderabad, a major technology hub, will be a shared capital for both states for a period not exceeding 10 years. Thereafter, Hyderabad will become part of Telangana.
