Apple Worldwide Developers ConferenceSan Francisco, June 3 – Apple organizes their annual World Wide Developer Conference during the first week of June every year. Hailed as the annual pilgrimage for worldwide Apple developers and technology experts, this year’s conference (WWDC2014) marks its 25th year.

Yesterday, WWDC2014 kicked off in San Francisco, USA with the Company’s President Tim Cook presenting the keynote address to over 6000 of the world’s top class developers.

Unlike the previous conferences, there was not a single hardware introduction this year. Typically Apple used to launch new iPhones in the past and in recent years new versions of their Macintosh computers.

However, this year the focus was entirely on software.

Introduction of iOS 8

It has been announced that Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices will see improved operating system termed iOS 8 and the Macintosh computers will get a new version of Mac OS.

The primary feature that was first demonstrated at WWDC2014 was the seamless operation of both these platform types.

Users can start composing an email on an iPhone and then continue to compose it and send it from the Macintosh.

The same can also be reversed. Similarly documents, spreadsheets, presentations, photos, videos and many other documents can be created, edited and viewed across all these devices automatically – without the user having to transfer the documents back and forth.

Impressive enhancements

Both operating systems also saw numerous feature enhancements that was designed to make it really easy and exciting for users to use these devices in their day to day lives.

Sharing apps, pictures, videos and music among family members, storing and organizing personal health care information in a central place, automating controls in a connected home – are some of the examples featured in these operating systems.

As this is a conference for developers, Apple focused on major improvements and additions to enable developers to create even more feature rich and powerful apps.

A major addition is the ability for an app to provide services to other apps. For example, an app that takes heartbeat information can provide that information to other apps that can make useful analysis to the user.

All of these are still managed by the operating system to ensure that the privacy of the user is protected.
