KUCHING, Feb 18 – Unity among the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religion society in Sarawak is part of the development of SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy). Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the Sarawak government see unity as another important feature that should prevail and become part of Sarawak society.
“In Sarawak, we learn to live harmoniously with each other and as such, let us keep this as treasure for the future of our society.
“We should try to retain the good spirit that prevailed in the past. Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole have enjoyed such tolerance and witnessed intensive engagement of many faith. I think this is very good,” he said at Malaysian
Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA) Sarawak Branch Chinese New Year Family Gathering here, last night.
Abdul Taib believes Malaysia, especially Sarawak, has managed to retain and capture the unity spirit because the people have learned to respect each other.
“Occasion like this reminds us how lucky we are, and hope we are able to keep this spirit of mutual respect, and understanding as the future of Sarawak society,” he said. The dinner gathering last night saw representatives from various Chinese associations, NGOs as well as religious leaders joining hands to foster greater unity and enhance harmonious relationship amongst the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religion Malaysian society.
Objectives of the gathering are to inculcate decent family values and foster closer ties between members and their family members especially, the elderly regardless of their religion, as Islam encourages its followers to establish a loving and caring society.
