World Cup to generate 1 million jobs in Brazil

worldcup2014logoRIO DE JANEIRO, June 23 — The 2014 World Cup is expected to generate one million jobs in Brazil and inject 30 billion reals (US$13.4 billion ) into the Brazilian economy, Xinhua news agency reports citing local media.

Out of one million jobs, 200,000 are temporary positions and the rest permanent, figures released by economic research institution Fipe showed.

Official tourism promotion agency Embratur head Vecente Neto said hotel occupancy in the 12 World Cup host cities was 45 percent above expectations.

Neto said the World Cup will help to promote Brazil as a tourist destination, leading to more jobs and income.
Brazil will host the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Jainero.
