KUCHING, Feb 19 – A total of 2,636 Malaysian citizens currently residing in 108 countries have registered as postal voters so far, Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof(Pic) said. He said as at yesterday, the highest number of postal voters were registered in Australia with 618 people, followed by United Kingdom (473), United States (203), China (151) and Qatar (124).
“The process to register as a postal voter is so easy. The applicants need only to send their application forms through email, fax or post, we hope the number will continue to rise,” he told a press conference after opening the
briefing for 96 returning officers and enforcement team leaders for 13th general election campaign here today.
Abdul Aziz also called on non-governmental organisations and other relevant parties involved in coaching election staff to provide only trainings that were in accordance with the stipulated procedures and laws.
“I heard that certain groups had provided trainings contradicting the methods taught by the EC.
“So, I would like to call on them to provide the staff with the correct methods so that they will not be confused,” he said, adding that the appointment of returning officers was being finalised and would be announced before the
dissolution of Parliament.
