In what is surely a feather in the cap for both the country and the bank, Maybank is the only Malaysian bank in the World’s Top 20 Strongest Banks, according to the July/August 2014 issue of ‘Bloomberg Markets’ magazine which is just out.
Hang Seng Bank Ltd, one of the most prominent financial prominent institutions in China Hong Kong and owned by HSBC Holdings Plc, is the world’s strongest bank, according to the annual ranking by ‘Bloomberg Markets.’
This issue lists that Maybank is again in the top 20 for the second consecutive year. A total of 97 banks were ranked globally. Maybank is the fourth largest bank in South-East Asia with total assets of over RM578 billion as at March 31, 2014. Its total deposits stood at RM396 billion.
The criteria included Tier 1 to risk-weighted assets, non-performing assets to total assets, loan-loss reserves to non-performing assets, deposits to funding and efficiency where costs against revenue are taken into account.
