MADRID, July 3 — TV network HBO confirmed Wednesday that part of season five of popular American fantasy drama TV series “Game of Thrones” will be filmed in Spain, Xinhua news agency reported.
Spain will be the seventh country or region used as a location for what is perhaps currently the most popular series on TV. Northern Ireland, Croatia, Morocco, Malta, Iceland and the United States have all hosted part of the filming of the series.
A statement from HBO said filming will take place during the second half of the year in several locations in the province of Seville in southern Spain and
will feature the city of Seville.
Mayor of Seville Juan Ignacio Zoido told local media that he hoped the shooting of the show would help create thousands of jobs. “Seville is a special place not just from the point of view of its buildings but also because it has always shown faith in the film industry.
We hope they are very happy here where the streets are an ideal set,” he said. The Andalusia Film Commission has also welcomed the news. “This could be the biggest project ever to be filmed in Andalusia, above any other films or productions we have had,” it said.
