KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 – There is a possibility that the position of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) would be decided at the meeting of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) tomorrow, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
However, the PKR de facto leader said even he could not guarantee the fate of the Port Klang State Assemblyman and everything was up to the decision of the meeting which would begin at 3pm.
“Wait for the meeting tomorrow. It is up to the MPP to decide on Khalid’s position, I’m not certain whether the decision will be made tomorrow at the meeting,” he told reporters.
He was asked on the possibility that Abdul Khalid, who is also the member of parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, would be sacked following the Menteri Besar’s refusal to comply with the directive of the party to relinquish the post which would be filled up by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Asked on the decision of the PAS Syura Council recently, which supported that Abdul Khalid be retained, Anwar said the PKR was not bound by the decision made by PAS, but it still respected PAS as a coalition partner in Pakatan Rakyat.
Meanwhile, PKR Youth head Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said Anwar had agreed to have a meeting of all the four leaders of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition partners to resolve the crisis involving the Selangor Menteri Besar.
Shamsul Iskandar said Anwar had expressed his agreement at the PKR meeting today which was also attended by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“This morning, I had conveyed (the proposal) to Anwar and he had said that he had no objection on the eight-eyed meeting with the leaders of the DAP, PAS, PKR and even the Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
“It is to resolve the situation and we will try to arrange it as soon as possible,” he said when met by reporters at the PKR headquarters, here today.
Commenting on the stand of the PAS Syura Council which insisted on retaining Abdul Khalid as the Menteri Besar, Shamsul said he respected the decision.
“But I believe PAS does not have detailed information on the matter.
“This is because matters on appointment and so on are normally decided within the party. I believe we have to give detailed clarification on the matter,” he said.
In another development, PKR Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Tan Kee Kwong said that in a letter today, Abdul Khalid had asked for a postponement in hearing his case from Friday to Aug 15.
