Sultan KedahALOR SETAR, Aug 11 — The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah today expressed his regrets at the various incidents that threatened racial and religious harmony in the country lately.

Tuanku Abdul Halim said many young people were expressing their views and opinions on the social media without considering the racial sensitivities on religion, traditions and social customs.

“The liberalism practised in the West is seen as modern and open but they are not suitable to our way of life and can destroy national civilisation. I wish to remind that the development of nationhood in this country starts with the social contract between the people of various races to create a network of relationship based on tolerance, moderation and mutual respect,” the Sultan said.

Tuanku Abdul Halim said the various religious and racial tension occurring especially on the social media indicated the uncivilised attitude regarding various decisions which were agreed upon by our forefathers.

Meanwhile, the Sultan also expressed his condolences to the families and relatives of those who had disappeared on the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 and those who died in the MH17 tragedy.
