Disseminate accurate info to help government explain MAS air tragedies, Shabery tells agencies

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13- The relevant agencies under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry must help the government explain the two recent air tragedies involving Malaysia Airlines (MAS) through the dissemination of accurate information, Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said on Tuesday.

The dissemination of information on the MH370 and MH17 flight tragedies, either accurately or otherwise, would have an impact on the people’s perception of the ministry, he said.”I have always stressed that this ministry is an important one because it is responsible for mobilising the entire information pertaining to the infrastructure development machinery in the country.

“We have to be a ministry that is more creative than the others, and we have to achieve an impact from our every programme and role,” he said when addressing the monthly assembly of the ministry here.In this connection, he said, the agencies under the ministry would have to be conscious of and evaluate their respective roles so that the ministry has the people’s support in disseminating information and communicating.

Ahmad Shabery said the MH370 and MH17 incidents were major issues for the country and the ministry served as one of the sources for the dissemination of information.”We are called upon to play a role in terms of delivering a good message,” he said.

He said the people would have to be informed of how the remains of the MH17 tragedy victims were brought out of the war zone in Ukraine, of how Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak spoke with the leader of the separatists in Donetsk, Alexander Borodai, to enable the remains of the victims to be removed from the crash site, and so on.

Ahmad Shabery said the government would ensure that all matters pertaining to the MH17 tragedy were carried out in detail, including the remains being accorded full honours.
