NEW DELHI, Aug 14 – India’s Jet Airways plunged 5,000 feet in altitude over Turkish airspace, while the pilot took a rest and the co-pilot was reading flight manuals, Indian media reported.
According to the reports, flight 9W 228 from Mumbai to Brussels was flying at an altitude of 34,000 feet when the incident happened on Aug 8.A call from Ankara air traffic controllers jolted the pilots of the Boeing 777-300 Extended Range, the reports said.
The Economic Times reported that initial enquiries by India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation has revealed that the pilot was taking a rest, which is allowed under the rules.
The co-pilot, who was in-charge had said that she was not aware of the reasons for descent and she was reading the flight manuals, the English daily
Both pilots have been grounded.
