KUALA LIPIS, Feb 21 – The restructuring of toll collection through a profit-sharing concept between the government and highway concessionaire provides lucrative returns to the government. Works Minister Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor said, as a result of the restructuring, the government had for the first time, obtained RM35.8 million in profits through toll collections last year.
He said the government had previously made profits but they were returned to the concession company as compensation payment.
“The highway toll restructuring is beneficial to users and the government; not only are the charges not increased but the government also does not need to pay compensation to the highway concessionaire.
“Through this win-win method, both parties receive profit and it does not affect the profit of the concession company,” he said after visiting the Central Spine Road (CSR) project in Merapoh near here today.
Also present was state housing, basic amenities and transport committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Tan Sri Abdul Razak.
