SINGAPORE, Feb 21 – Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong(Pic) has described his meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, during the Malaysia-Singapore Leaders Retreat as successful. In his Facebook posting, Lee said he held a successful retreat with Najib on Tuesday.
“Singapore-Malaysia ties are excellent, and we both agreed to strengthen our partnership and cooperation further,” he said, noting that Temasek Holdings and Khazanah Nasional Berhad were jointly developing projects in Singapore and in
Iskandar Malaysia.
He said they witnessed the unveiling of three of the projects on Tuesday – the Marina One development in Marina South, and the Urban Wellness Centre and Resort Wellness Centre in Iskandar Malaysia.
“These projects reflect the trust and goodwill between our countries.
“PM (Prime Minister) Najib and I also agreed to build a High Speed Rail link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. This will be a game changer in our relations.
“It will foster more people-to-people and business exchanges between Singapore and Malaysia, and create growth and prosperity for both countries,” he added.
Both prime ministers met at the Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat here on Monday and Tuesday, where they reaffirmed their commitment to a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership, especially amidst an uncertain global economy.
Najib, accompanied by wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, led the Malaysian delegation comprising 10 Cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and wife, Datin Seri Maznah Rais, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman and senior government officials. On Monday, Lee and wife hosted Najib and Rosmah, to dinner.
“We had yusheng to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and enjoyed the view of Marina Bay. We even managed to catch the Marina Bay Sand light and water show. Wonderful,!” said Lee.
