NEW DELHI, Aug 20 – World famous yoga guru Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, fondly known as B.K.S Iyengar, 96 has passed away at Pune Hospital, Maharashtra.
He was introduced to yoga at the age of 16.Indian media reported that he was put on dialysis last Sunday at the Prayag Hospital following renal failure.“I am deeply saddened to know about Yogacharya B.K.S Iyengar’s demise and offer my condolences to his followers all over the world,” India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi said in his micro-blogging site, twitter.
He said generations will remember him as a fine Guru, scholar and a stalwart who brought yoga into the lives of many across the globe.In 2004, Iyengar was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
