SHAH ALAM, Aug 21- The proposal by Pakatan Rakyat to appoint the wife of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Selangor menteri besar has received more protests from various parties.
The latest protest came from Angkatan Rakyat Sedar (ARAS), a coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which unanimously rejected the proposal to appoint Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to the post.
President of the coalition, Abdul Rahim Abdul Wahad said the group, comprising 12 NGOs, rejected the appointment of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president and wanted Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to continue with his work as Selangor menteri besar until the end of his term.
“Abdul Khalid has been performing his duties excellently and we do not see any reason for him to be replaced. Why change a good leader?”And he would be replaced by someone who is not even Selangor-born,” he said at a press conference, here, today.
The NGO coalition includes Gerak Arus Rakyat Bawahan Selangor, Persatuan Anak Selangor Menyokong Menteri Besar, Persatuan Kongres Warisan Melayu Selangor and Persatuan Bekas Tentera Tidak Berpencen.
Meanwhile in Klang, a memorandum supporting Abdul Khalid to remain as menteri besar was sent to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today. The memorandum was handed over by Hazlan Shaffii Adil, president of Solidariti Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, to a palace representative at Istana Alam Shah, here, at about 3pm.
The Selangor menteri besar crisis began with Abdul Khalid’s expulsion from PKR on Aug 9 for not stepping down from his post to make way for Dr Wan Azizah.
