Wan Azizah nominated as Selangor MB in her capacity as PKR president – Anwar

Wan Azizah 440 x 215KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was nominated as the Selangor Menteri Besar in her capacity as PKR president.

Anwar, who is also PKR de facto leader, stressed that the decision to nominate Dr Wan Azizah was made by PKR and should be respected by other parties in Pakatan Rakyat as the Selangor Menteri Besar’s seat belonged to PKR.

When asked whether he was worried that PAS would nominate other candidates for the post following the request from Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who wanted PAS, PKR and DAP to each propose more than two candidates for the menteri besar post, Anwar said they should honour the agreement reached among them.

“We have never raised the issue concerning PAS’ decision on its candidates for the menteri besar post in Perak, Kedah or Kelantan, but what’s more important in my mind is that all those matters have been taken into consideration before the meeting and were finalised on Aug 17,” he said.

Anwar said this to reporters before attending the proceedings for his legal suit against Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman at the Jalan Duta Court Complex here.

Anwar said PAS was also involved in the decision-making process during the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting on Aug 17, in which its deputy president, secretary-general, Wanita and Youth representatives agreed to nominate Dr Wan Azizah.

Yesterday, the Sultan of Selangor decided to postpone accepting the resignation of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Menteri Besar until a new menteri besar is named.

Anwar said he was also shocked with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s remark yesterday, in which he called on the people in Selangor to gauge rationally the political development in the state.

Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman said nepotism openly occurred in Selangor where a fit elected representative was asked to resign and be replaced by one’s own wife, then a by-election was held and after that, the wife was chosen as candidate for the menteri besar post.
