Mas recovery plan to include job cuts of 6,000 employees across the board: Khazanah

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30- Malaysia Airlines’ (MAS) recovery plan,which will include job cuts of some 6,000 employees, will be undertaken across the board, says Khazanah National Bhd Managing Director Tan Sri Datuk Azman Khazanah Nasional has unveiled a RM6 billion recovery plan for MAS which will see the ailing national carrier inject greater efficieny by cutting its staff size comprising almost 20,000 by 30 per cent and refocusing on profitable regional routes rather than loss-making long-haul destinations.

He said talks were held this morning with MAS union on the restructuring plan but refused to divulge further as it was private.Under the 12-point plan, the new company, expected to be formed by July 2015, would have around 14,000 staff.

Khazanah holds nearly 70 per cent of MAS stake.”It is critical that the new company starts on a right footing in terms of staff size and work practices,” Azman said.Khazanah will invest in a corporate re-skilling centre, to be located in Subang, specifically to address the re-skilling of the MAS staff who don’t migrate to the new company.

Khazanah and MAS have also partnered with Scicom (MSC) Bhd and Sutherland Global Services to offer training to MAS staff and partially absorb some of them.
