SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is disappointed with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the DAP for submitting only one name as candidate for Selangor menteri besar.
Private Secretary to the Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani said both the parties are deemed as to have disobeyed Sultan Sharafuddin’s command to submit more than two names.
“The Sultan of Selangor has received the names of candidates for Selangor menteri besar from three Pakatan Rakyat parties as stated by the sultan in a letter dated August 27, 2014.
“However, only PAS abided by the Sultan of Selangor’s command by submitting three names while PKR and the DAP submitted only one name, that of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR president) as candidate for Selangor menteri besar,” he said in a statement in Shah Alam, Monday.
Mohamad Munir said the action of both parties not only reflects their rudeness towards the monarchy institution, but also an act of treason towards the Sultan of Selangor.
The Sultan of Selangor’s command for more than two names as candidates for Selangor menteri besar is the practice or convention so that he can choose the Selangor menteri mesar based on the support of a majority of state assemblymen and also in terms of their skills, experience, integrity and ability.
He said the traits are very important to ensure a smooth Selangor administration and augurs well for the harmony in the state. “The Sultan of Selangor is confident that there are many candidates in Pakatan Rakyat who have good leadership traits to lead the Selangor government,” Mohamad Munir said.
Mohamad Munir said the Sultan of Selangor will study the list of candidates received by considering all aspects in evaluating the candidates before making any decision.
“Since the power to appoint Selangor menteri besar is at the discretion of the Sultan of Selangor, he will study the names of other state assemblymen from Pakatan Rakyat who are qualified and has majority support of the state assemblymen,” he added.
On August 27, the Sultan of Selangor commanded Pakatan Rakyat parties PKR, PAS and DAP to submit more than two names as candidates for the Selangor menteri besar.
He issued the command after delaying accepting the resignation of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim until the process of appointing a new menteri besar is completed.
