KOTA KINABALU, Feb 22 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that Sabah will remain as a Barisan Nasional (BN) state at the upcoming 13th General Election.  He said Sabah BN was prepared to face the general election and determined to repeat its excellent performance at the 2008 election, which saw the party make a clean sweep of 60 state and 25 parliamentary seats.

“I’m very confident that Sabah will remain a ‘blue state’ (blue for BN).

This is a statement based on the facts and data presented to me,” he told reporters after the general election briefing by the Sabah BN coordination chairmen, here today.  Asked about the division of seats among the component parties in the state, particularly the seat allocated to the Sabah Progressive Party before it left BN, Muhyiddin said the matter would be decided soon by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is BN chairman.

The next few weeks were very important for BN to further strengthen its position in every area, he added.  He further remarked that attention would be given to certain groups of voters such as young and first time voters.
He expressed satisfaction with the close relationship among the Sabah BN component parties, which was the party’s strength.

“This is BN’s strength and we’ll defend it. We have no problems compared to the opposition parties, who are still in a confused state. We know they have many issues,” he said.
