KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today reproached the opposition party for insulting the recipients of various Barisan Nasional (BN) aid programmes. The PM said the government was only carrying out its entrusted duty and responsibility for the welfare of the people.
“If the opposition don’t help the people, it’s alright, but don’t insult them. Don’t label the BR1M recipients as chickens pecking at feed,” he said at the state level Jelajah Janji Ditepati programme, here today.
More than 20,000 people attended the event, including Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said. He stressed that the people should now realise the truth and reject the opposition coalition.
As a trustworthy and responsible entity, the BN government realised that the people must be helped according to their needs, said Najib.
“We have calculated that on average, a family can buy groceries such as 10kg of rice, 5kg of cooking oil and other essentials per month with RM41.60.
“That means they have enough to buy food for 12 months with the RM500 BR1M,’ he added.
He said BR1M was not the only assistance which had benefited 4.3 million people, as there were an array of government programmes including school aid, book vouchers, not discounting oil, rice and other subsidies. All these have been implemented by the government in line with its slogan ‘Janji Ditepati’ for the well-being and harmony of Malaysians, he said. Based on feedback he has received, Najib said the people can foresee a bright future under the leadership of the BN government.
“The conclusion is, one vote to PKR is one vote for the breakdown of faith in the country.
“One vote for Pas will bring us closer to Muslim disunity and one vote for DAP will lead to their oppression,” he said.
On the other hand, one vote for BN was one vote for defending Muslims, one vote for the strengthening of the Islamic faith, one vote for Muslim unity, one vote for upholding the Malaysian race and one vote for achieving a developed nation by 2020, said Najib.
“The present government is able to continue elevating Islamic teachings and develop the religion. Islamic development needs more than mere lectures. It needs to be acted on and implemented the way BN does it,” he said.
He said PAS, who purportedly claimed to defend Islam, was instead willing to allow DAP to belittle the religion.
