New Delhi, September 15 – Last week’s barrage of iPhone related chatter is slowly settling down. Much has been said about the larger, upgraded iPhones by Apple, and the world. What didn’t find mention at the Flint Centre event was the iPad.
Well, there seems to be a hint of things of things to come if we look back at Apple’s track record. A September event is generally followed by one in October that addresses the iPad and the Mac lines. According to industry analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities an improved iPad 6 or iPad Air 2 is around the corner.
Here’s a roundup of what’s expected from Cupertino:
– The display is expected to remain constant at a 9.7 inches, but a higher resolution panel is expected, possibly a thinner IGZO for better performance.
– So far there has only been one redesign to the iPad, and that was in 2011, with the iPad 2. A redesign reflecting the curvier iPhones is anticipated and if the few “leaked” images floating around are believe then a slight trim is expected.
– In line with recent developments in Apple’s lineup, Touch ID is also touted as one of the new iPad’s features and was seen on the images leaked earlier this year. that opens up lines for Apple Pay coming to the iPad as well.
– Of course, the new A8 processor is expected in the iPad, along with a bump in memory, taking it to 2GB. This will be required if Apple plans on implementing split screen functionality as seen in the iPhone 6 Plus demos.
– iOS 8 has long been announced and available for testing purposes. Since the new iPhones will be shipped with iOS 8 by default, the iPad reiteration is also expected to run the OS. This means a new Messages, Spotlight and Photos app as well.
– Improvements to the iPad’s camera are long overdue. the 5MP camera is not exactly the tablet’s crowning feature but needs upgrading considering competition like Dell is looking at 3D cameras.
– Apple recently announced that 3rd party accessories like headphones would be able to connect to the iPad via its Lightning port. Perhaps Apple will take initiative and include such earphones to begin with.
