New Delhi, September 17 – Apple over the last week has faced some unnecessary flak about its odd launch of U2’s album ‘Songs of Innocence’ as users were unable to remove it from their library after it was sent and automatically added to 2 million of its 500 million iTunes users.
Now, Apple has created a tool so that the album can be removed from ones library. While Apple has always offered a way to ‘hide’ purchases, there was no proper way of removing the albums permanently.
Using Apple’s tool, one can remove the album, but still retain the right to reacquire it. The album is free on iTunes till October 13. Currently, it is only available through iTunes, but after October it will be available through other means as well.
To remove the album, one needs to go to http://itunes.com/soi-remove and then click on the remove album option. Then one needs to sign-in to their Apple account and finally one will get a confirmation, which states the album has been successfully removed.
In the wake of the SOI-removal tool, Apple’s SVP Eddy Cue told Mashable that the album was already heard by 33 million users on iTunes, iTunes Radio or Beats. “Just six days after its release on iTunes, a record breaking 33 million people have already experienced the album,” he revealed.
