iphone6_pfNew Delhi, September 19 – Wednesday evening was D-day for millions of iPhone and iPad users as Apple pushed out its latest mobile operating system – iOS 8.  The update caused a major controversy as it demanded 5.7GB of free space to process the installation.

The update file itself was around 1.1GB so it was strange that the installation was asking for around 5.7GB of free space. Many users have revolted against this. Particularly, iPhone 5C 8GB users are affected as their devices only have 8GB of internal memory to begin with.

This means they don’t have much memory to spare for videos, music, apps and pictures and the 5.7GB demand becomes a little unreasonable. Even on 16GB iPhone or iPad models, users are likely to run into issues.

iOS 8 is supported by the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina Display, and the fifth-generation iPod touch.

iphone6Users are advised to back up their phone via iTunes before updating to iOS 8. The update brings a myriad of new features to the table. It adds a new adaptive keyboard Apple calls QuickType, inter-app communication, third-party keyboards, synergy with OS X Yosemite through Continuity, iCloud Drive, widgets, HealthKit, and an improved notifications centre.

Some may argue that lot of these features have been there on Android devices for years, but still, it is an impressive update for iPhone, iPod and iPad users.
