New Delhi, October 18 – Apple on Thursday launched the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display, featuring the world’s highest resolution display in an all-in-one computer with 14.7 million pixels.
The company said that with the quad-core processors, high-performance graphics, fusion drive and Thunderbolt 2, iMac with Retina 5K display was the most powerful iMac ever made.
“Thirty years after the first Mac changed the world, the new iMac with Retina 5K display running OS X Yosemite is the most insanely great Mac we have ever made,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “It’s the most beautiful and powerful iMac ever.”
In India, the new iMac will be available at a price of Rs.179,900 in the coming weeks. This price is for a model running a 3.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processors with turbo boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics card and a 1TB Fusion Drive. If you require better hardware, for example Core i7 processor, the price would go up.
The key feature of the new iMac is its display. Apple said that with a resolution of 5120 x 2880, iMac with Retina 5K display has four times more pixels than the standard 27-inch iMac and 67 per cent more pixels than a 4K display.
Along with the new iMac, Apple also announced the updated Mac Mini on Thursday. The company said that the Mac mini now features fourth generation Intel Core processors, integrated graphics that are up to 90 per cent faster, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt 2.
“People love Mac mini. It’s a great first Mac or addition to your home network, and the new Mac mini is a nice upgrade packed into an incredibly compact design,” said Schiller.
“With the latest CPU and graphics, faster Wi-Fi, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, OS X Yosemite, and starting at just Rs.36,990, the new Mac mini is the best value ever.”
The basic mode, priced at Rs.36,990, has a 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.7 GHz, 4GB of memory, Intel HD Graphics 5000 and a 500GB hard drive. If you want more powerful hardware, the price goes up.
