BAU (Sarawak), Feb 26 – Only Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has the final decision on who will be the candidate for the Mas Gading parliamentary seat, says Mas Gading’s incumbent, Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe(Pic).
He also believes that Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president, Tan Sri William Mawan has to follow any decision by the prime minister as Barisan Nasional (BN) had agreed to leave all decisions to the prime minister.
“Just leave it like that. What can we do? Even William Mawan has no power (to finalise the choice of BN candidate for Mas Gading) because the PM has the final say.”
He told reporters this after attending the Chinese New Year celebration of the National Service (NS) trainees first group series (10/2013) at the Puncak Permai NS Camp, here, last night. Asked whether he would be contesting in the upcoming general election, Tiki did not give a clear answer but saying that he was well prepared.
“I am still going around (the constituency) as I am its incumbent MP. I’ve been preparing since a long time….the whole BN machinery in prepared and we have two centres in Bau, two in Lundu and one in Biawak.
“Our campaign materials are ready and we are just waiting for the prime minister to decide on the candidate for Mas Gading,” he said.
Tiki, who successfully defended the predominantly Bidayuh constituency for three terms since 1999, was SPDP vice-president before he was sacked by the party in November 2011 for gross insubordination. SPDP has made it clear on many occasions that it had nominated Anthony Nogeh to defend the Mas Gading seat.
