KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 – More Malaysians were visiting Uzbekistan, reflecting the strong bilateral ties between the two countries, said the trade counsellor of the Uzbekistan embassy in Malaysia, Takhir Aliev.
He said 2,035 Malaysians visited Uzbezkistan last year, an increase of 34 per cent over the previous year’s figure.
“We expect to increase the number of Malaysian visitors to 25 per cent by next year as we have interesting historical places and monuments,” he told Bernama today at the one-day Uzbekistan tourism roadshow, here. The roadshow was aimed at creating awareness of the country to Malaysians where nine travel agencies from Uzbezkistan participated to offer interesting flights and accommodation packages, while at the same time seeking cooperation from local travel agencies.
Aliev said the Uzbekistan government was improving facilities such as roads and hotels to attract tourists from around the world including Malaysia. He said some 11,000 Uzbeks visited Malaysia last year for travelling and business opportunities while 600 Uzbek students were studying here.
